Pedro Pantoja, on behalf of 20 migrant organizations, said they had urged Mexican authorities to grant refugee status to Hondurans following the June 28 coup that ousted then-president Manuel Zelaya.

According to Pantoja, NGO-run houses in the southeastern states of Chiapas and Oaxaca have begun receiving Honduran families fleeing political crisis in their country.

Pantoja said his organization had urged a halt of kidnaps and attacks on Central Americans in his country.
