A large statue placed in New York City's Times Square this week is a copy of the famous photograph taken by Alfred Eisenstaedt that showed an American sailor kissing a woman in a white dress on Victory over Japan Day (V-J Day), on August 14, 1945. The official US celebration of V-J Day is celebrated on Sept 2, the date of the formal signing of the surrender by Japan. China will mark the 70th anniversary of victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, schedule on Sept 3. Hong Xiao / China Daily |
