The Spring Festival Celebration is one of the most important holidays of the Chinese culture. This year, the University of British Columbia Chinese Students and Scholars Association (CSSA) presented the 2015 UBC CSSA Spring Festival Gala as a New Year celebration to share the joy of entering the Year of the Ram.

The celebration was oriented mainly to the Chinese community, and drew many Chinese students, scholars, and their families, providing them with an opportunity to connect with each other and share best wishes for the New Year.

This was the first large-scale event individually hosted by CSSA and attracted more than 800. Preparation for the gala took more than two months through the dedicated efforts 90 executives.

Various performances including music, dances, stage dramas and sketch comedies were presented. Foreign students of Chinese culture, including Rebekah Greenwood and Nick Angiers, performed several traditional Chinese songs.

Several student organizations such as the Spark Performing Group, FYF-Dreamer and Flying Dance Studio and String Orchestra Band showcased their top numbers. Popular Chinese-Canadian singer Phil Lam performed live.

This year, the UBC CSSA received letters of congratulation from Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper and BC Premier Christy Clark. Liu Fei, Consul General of China in Vancouver, attended the event and wished everyone a happy Chinese New Year.

The great 2015 Chinese New Year Gala was to many one of the most successful large-scale events held by the UBC CSSA, which organizes various events with the goal of connecting all Chinese students and scholars, and creating a home-like environment abroad.
