Iraq's deputy parliament speaker nominated as next prime minister

BAGHDAD -- The Iraqi National Alliance, a Shiite organization, on Monday nominated Haidar al-Abadi, the deputy speaker of the Parliament, for the post of prime minister, while the outgoing Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki struggles to stay on for a third term, a local Iraqi television reported.
