Members of Southern California's Chinese community demonstrated on May 11 in front of the Philippine Consulate in Los Angeles. A letter that Sue Zhang, president of the Roundtable of Chinese American Organizations, presented to consulate officials read: "Huangyan Island has been China's indisputable territory since ancient time. Any upcoming anti-China demonstrations, encouraged by the Philippine government, will increase tension and hostility between the peoples of both countries, and even among the ethnic groups in the United States."
