The second Hainan International Tourism Island Bougainvillea Exhibition will be staged from January 20 to April 15, 2017 in Haikou city, announced the executive committee of the exhibition on Monday.
With the theme of "New flower city, new Haikou", the exhibition next year aims to attract visitors with various features, such as opening a bougainvillea 3D amusement park, and designing bougainvillea-themed cultural creative products.
The exhibition, sponsored by Haikou municipal government, is dedicated to make the event a year-long brand promotion, and will have a theme song, stage play, a series of books, stamps and postcards.
It will also introduce foreign flower-themed cultural brands, and hold photography contests and related cultural activities.
The first session has just closed on April 15, which lasted for 75 days, one of the longest and most influential events in Hainan province.
During the Spring Festival holiday this year, also the period of the bougainvillea exhibition, Haikou received 1.3 million tourists, and generated tourism revenue of 176 million yuan ($26.8 million), according to hinews.cn. Driven by the exhibition, the depressed market for bougainvillea is also improved, doubling the price of flowers and resulting in more enterprises investing in bougainvillea planting.
