Tengchong in Yunnan province, considered to be the “Garden of Eden” under the foot of Gaoligong Mountain, made efforts to further promote its tourism industry.
The city held a promotion of its tourism on Thursday in Xi’an, the capital of Shaanxi province and one of the hottest destinations in China attracting tourists all over the world.
Zhuang Yu, mayor of Tengchong, said at the promotional event that his city is a new tourism city in Yunnan with 349 key tourism spots over a total area of 1,000 sq km.
"Located in the southwest part of the province and bordered with Burma, our tourism has its own special characteristics with rich natural and cultural tourism resources," the mayor said.
With 16 border crossing roads, the city is a convenient way for tourists to South Asia and Southeast Asia, as there are only 200 km from the city to Myitkyina, the third largest city in Burma, and 602 km to Ledo, India border city.
Besides the linking of highway from Kunming, Tengchong also has direct air routes to: Beijing, Chongqing, Shenzhen, Chengdu, and Xi'an.
In recent years, the city government focused its concentration on building a safe, healthy and harmonious tourism brand through food, hotel, transportation, touring, shopping, and entertainment with key tourism products of hot spring healthcare, outdoor sports, and jade shopping.
In 2015, the city received 7.5 million tourists and its tourism revenue reached 6.6 billion yuan ($100 million).
