An abandoned navy base in Tillamook Bay, Oregon in the US played a vital role in World War II but is now a forgotten relic. The complex was built by the US Navy in 1942 and provided the country with blimp squadrons that patrolled the Pacific in the fight against Japan. After Japan's surrender, the hangar base was decommissioned in 1948 and left as a relic to the mercy of the natural rainforest surrounding the base. [Photo/IC] |
