China will do everything possible to protect the legitimate rights of its citizens overseas, Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Sunday.
"Wherever there is a Chinese footprint, the consular service must cover that place. We will continue to improve the value of Chinese passports, so that compatriots find it easier to travel abroad. We hope that more of our countrymen can go abroad at any time they wish, and that they can have smooth, safe and worry-free travels," he said.
The hot line "12308" has received more than 30,000 calls in only six months. Chinese can obtain help from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the Chinese Embassy or Consulate in foreign countries if suffering problems.
I hope you will never need this number.

Is it following the example of the United States? If the hotline really takes effect as it does in the US, that would be a real benefit and superior treatment for Chinese people overseas.

The number should be printed in new passports.

Don't be capricious in behavior just because of this public service number.
