ROME - Inter Milan scored late goals to win 2-0 at Chievo on Friday and ended their dismal recent running of seven straight losses and one draw.

Defender Walter Samuel headed Inter in front near the end, before Diego Milito, who missed a penalty in the 14th minute, sealed the win in stoppage time to lift some of the pressure from Inter coach Claudio Ranieri.

Ranieri admitted he was moved after being spotted misty-eyed at Inter's long-awaited victory.

"It means I care about these lads and am happy for them," he said.

"We played truly well and they deserved this win after a month of abstinence. I have to thank these lads for tonight's performance, as they finally played like Inter."

Inter were gifted the chance to take the lead in the 14th minute when a corner from the right crossed the penalty area and hit the arm of Francesco Acerbi as he tried to clear the danger.

The penalty was inevitable, but Milito failed to take full advantage as Stefano Sorrentino made his third penalty save of the season to deny the Argentinian.
