My Father on his wedding day just after WWII in 1946. He was a pilot flying Tigers, Spitfires and Lancasters. I have his flight log book. It is stamped 'grounded for one week' The Spitfire was the first plane with retractable wheels, and he just forgot to put them down on that day. It looks to me it was the second flight in a Spitfire He said he was looking at others on the ground while he was landing and wondered what their concerned looks were about, then realized he was too close to the ground but it was too late.[Photo provided to chinadaily.com.cn] |
