Comment on "Beijing's transportation is getting its act together" (China Daily, Jan 7)
Beijing's traffic and congestion problem cannot be improved without a fundamental change in drivers' behavior.
The vast majority of today's drivers need to retake their driving test with emphasis on courtesy, better awareness of traffic (instead of mere tunnel vision) and a lesson on "right of way". And the rules enforced by traffic police need to be complemented by active policing of dos and don'ts on motorways and better use of traffic cameras.
