Exceptional performance
Comment on "IOC defends Ye Shiwen against doping accusations" (China Daily website, July 31)
The majority of Westerners are not racist or cowards like the BBC commentator and the American swimming coach who falsely accused the young Chinese swimmer, 16-year-old Ye Shiwen, of taking performance-enhancing drugs. They should be totally ashamed of making these false accusations. Ye has done the nation proud.
And we are proud of the huge success of Chinese sportsmen and sportswomen in London. We have thoroughly enjoyed every moment of the Games, in particular the excellent achievements of the next generation of superstars like Ye Shiwen, who is certainly destined to be one of the greats of Chinese swimming.
And it is not just in swimming that Chinese athletes have excelled, they were also top in many other disciplines, such as weightlifting, badminton, table tennis, athletics, gymnastics, diving, fencing and shooting.
I want to congratulate all the athletes concerned for the their exceptional performance.
Layhey, on China Daily website
Both the International Olympic Committee and the London Organizing Committee of the Olympic Games have cleared the gold medalist Ye Shiwen of using banned drugs. Some of the Americans and the British really should apologize unreservedly for their totally unfounded accusations of Ye.
