Baihualin (The Birchwood), released in Jan 1999, is a song from the former Soviet Union, it was rewritten and composed by Chinese folk singer Pu Shu.The song tells a sad love story of a soldier who fought during WWII. Enlisted inthe armed forces of the former Soviet Union to fight Germany in 1944, the soldier said goodbye to his girlfriend and fights bravely in the war, but he was never able to come back – he sacrificed himself in the war. The girl keeps waiting for him at the birchwood where they parted, hoping that he is just lost, and will be able to make his way back.
