In the Chinese literary classic A Dream of Red Mansions, the most delicate and intricate dishes are always being prepared to pamper the Jia family of princesses and the sole heir, Jia Baoyu. Now, gourmets in Beijing, too, can enjoy the skillful kitchen arts thanks to guest chef Anthony Dong of the Futian Shangri-La in Shenzhen. This will be the Shangri-La Beijing's October highlight, both a culinary and a literary event, with dishes that promise to be works of art both for the eye, and the palate. Best for a table of 10, so start collecting your friends now. Banquet date is Oct 20, and reservations definitely recommended. - Pauline D. Loh
