Qujiang Film and TV Group based in Xi'an, Shaanxi province, plans to make a television drama of White Deer Plain, an influential contemporary novel. The novel, a saga about two clans in Shaanxi, has already been made into a film directed by Wang Quan'an. It was not well received among audiences and critics, partly due to the novel's 50-year time span and multiple characters. Qujiang turns to the advantage of TV drama series, lengthy enough to accommodate the epic novel. The company recently announced that it has acquired the TV rights for the novel, and seasoned writer Shen Jie is working on the script.
