Taiwan's highest-grossing film, Warriors of the Rainbow: Seediq Bale, will premiere on the Chinese mainland in May.
Wei Te-sheng directs a story about the aboriginal Taiwan tribe Seediq that fought Japanese invaders in the 1930s.
Wei prepared for the project for more than 10 years and is still $3.3 million in debt after the film grossed $26 million in Taiwan.
Because the mainland has no ratings system, Wei has edited a new two-and-a-half-hour version. The version that debuted at the Venice International Film Festival was more than three hours.
