A compilation of remarks by Zhou Enlai, the first Premier of the People's Republic of China, was issued by People’s Publishing House today.
The book collects remarks made by Zhou during interviews, conferences and speeches between 1936 and 1971. The materials were sorted out into 64 essays, with background information.
"Most of the remarks by Zhou were published in important magazines and newspapers in the 1940s and 1950s, some of them were translated from overseas works, so to most young readers, these materials will be read for the first time," said Zhang Zhenming, editorial director of People's Publishing House.
"Today is the 40th anniversary of the death of Zhou, it is a special way to pay tribute to our former premier," Zhang said.
Zhou was the first Premier of the People's Republic of China, serving from October 1949 until his death in January 1976. As a skilled and able diplomat, Zhou served as the Chinese foreign minister from 1949 to 1958.
