Van Gogh once put it, "I dream of painting and then I paint my dream." To have an artistic bedroom was one of his dreams. One bed, two chairs and several pictures constitute the major part of the oil painting. A mix of colors renders a sense of delight and peace. Rumor has it that the two figure paintings hanging on the wall are his brother Theo and his dream lover. Through the painting, he longed to update Theo on his recent living conditions, and to express his wish to live a tranquil life in a small town free from worries and troubles.
