Wushan Man
In 2007, Chinese archeologists concluded that the 2 million-year-old human fossils found in Wushan County, Chongqing municipality, from 1985 to 1988 belong to the earliest human species in China.
Before finding of Wushan Man, the earliest human fossil found in the mainland of China was that of the Yuanmou Man, who lived in Yunnan Province 1.7 million years ago. The new discovery puts human existence in China 300,000 years earlier.
