Cultural heritage gets better protection

Safeguarding cultural heritage has been greatly enhanced, said Wang Wenzhang, director-general of the China National Center for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage.

He made the remarks during the fourth International Festival of Intangible Cultural Heritage, in Chengdu, Sichuan province. Since the implementation of the UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage 10 years ago, the world has witnessed great progress in protecting cultural heritage, he said.

On Feb 25, 2011, the Law of the People's Republic of China on Intangible Cultural Heritage was adopted on the 19th meeting of the National People's Congress Standing Committee, he said. This also symbolized the importance of protecting heritage, he said.
