Zhu Tiezhi, deputy editor-in-chief of Qiushi Journal, a magazine dedicated to theoretical research on the Communist Party of China, was found hanged in a garage at his workplace on Sunday, according to China.org.cn.
According to the report, Zhu didn't show up at work on Friday. He left home at 9 pm on Friday and apparently hanged himself around 1 am the next day, the report said.
Zhu, 56, who is also a popular essayist, spent 30 years at the magazine and produced more than 2,000 essays and assembled 17 collections of his writings.
He has received the Lu Xun Literary Prize and China News Award as well as national news awards over the years.
He gave a speech on June 16 at a seminar. The event was his last appearance in public.
Qiushi, which in Chinese means "seeking truth", was founded on July 1, 1988. It is the most influential and authoritative magazine devoted to policymaking and theoretical studies, with a circulation of 1.56 million in 2015.
Aiming to publicize the governing philosophy of the Party, it covers political, economic, cultural and social issues while providing analyses of world politics and China's foreign relations.
Qiushi Journal has expanded its influence in recent years through opening its website, qstheory.cn, on July 1, 2009, as well as launching an English edition in October 2009.
