Engine failure causes emergency landing of flight

GUANGZHOU - The emergency landing of a Beijing-bound passenger plane on Monday night was caused by mechanical engine failure, China Southern Airlines said Wednesday.
China Southern Airlines flight CZ3739 was forced to make an emergency landing at an airport in Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong Province, at 9:40 pm, about one hour after take off.
A passenger surnamed Lyu said the cabin was filled with the smell of burning and started to shake violently after a loud bang. Upon landing, he said fire trucks could be seen in the parking apron.
No casualties were reported. The flight, which was from Zhuhai in Guangdong to Beijing, was resumed at 1:20 am on Tuesday by another plane.
The exact cause of the incident is under further investigation.
