BEIJING - Typhoon Neoguri is moving from northwest Pacific Ocean towards China's coastal areas and will bring gales to regions along its path, meteorological authority forecast Sunday.
The typhoon, the eighth typhoon of this year, was located at 1,180 km southeast of Taipei at 5 pm Beijing time on Sunday, with wind speed of up to 180 km per hour at the center, the National Meteorological Center (NMC) said in a statement.
The NMC forecast that Neoguri will move northwestward at a speed of 25 to 30 km per hour as its force strengthens and arrive at the southeastern part of East China Sea on Tuesday morning.
Neoguri will bring strong gales along its path, from the ocean east of Taiwan, most part of East China Sea, waters near Diaoyu Islands, coast north of Zhejiang Province to the Yangtze River estuary, the center said.
Neoguri means a raccoon dog. The typhoon was named by the Republic of Korea.
