Surveillance ship commissioned
China's first marine surveillance ship of its class with a displacement of more than 1,000 metric tons was commissioned in Fujian province on Saturday, according to a report on China Central Television. The 1,337-ton ship, Haijian 8002, is about 80 meters long and can reach speeds of 20 knots. The ship is equipped with the Beidou Navigation Satellite System and two water cannons.

3 dead after wall collapse
The death toll from a wall collapse at a construction site in Zhoukou, Henan province, has risen to three, government sources said on Sunday. Rescue efforts concluded after the bodies of the two missing people were retrieved from the rubble, according to the Zhoukou government press office. The wall collapsed around 7 pm on Friday while concreting work was being carried out at the city's passenger bus station, which is under construction.

Boiler explosion claims 2 lives
A boiler exploded in Cixi, Ningbo, Zhejiang province, on Sunday, killing two people and injuring at least six. The explosion occurred around 11:20 am in a noodle workshop. Three buildings near the workshop partially collapsed after the explosion, according to local media. Rescuers were still searching for survivors.

Man suspected of multiple murder
Police have arrested a man suspected of murder after five people were killed in a village in Changshu, Jiangsu province, on Sunday morning. The man, named Wang, 24, from Anhui province, was arrested in Suzhou. Police said Wang also stole 20,000 yuan ($3,210) from one of the victims.

Official in custody after hit-and-run
A government official in Southwest China has been taken into custody after causing an accident that killed a college student and left a boy seriously wounded, China News Service reported on Sunday. Huang Shuanghu, Party chief of the cultural bureau in Mangshi, Yunnan province, hit a 22-year-old college student and her younger brother while he was driving home around 10:30 am on Friday, police said. Huang did not stop his car after the accident. Police suspect he had been drinking.

Mine flood traps 1 underground
A colliery flood on Sunday has left one person trapped underground in Huaibei, Anhui province. The Anhui Coal Mine Safety Supervision Bureau said the flooding occurred around 12:20 am at Taoyuan Coal Mine under Anhui Huaibei Mining Group. Rescuers pulled 443 miners out of the shaft.
