ZHUHAI - A golf course is expected to be introduced to a kindergarten in south China's booming coastal city of Zhuhai in Guangdong Province from Sepmtember, local authorities said Saturday.
The mini golf court is a round green carpet with a diameter of two meters. Children can push the ball into the three holes outside the carpet.
The course will be free for the children. It was initiated by Zhuhai School Golf Association, which was founded by Zhuhai Sports Center Golf Club.
"Promoting the golf to the public is what we have been wishing to do because it has become an important industry for Zhuhai," said Liu Tie, head of the Industry Planning and Development Department of the Zhuhai Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau.
"Let the children get in touch with golf is a good trial," he said.
Golf has long been considered a sport for the rich in China because of its huge land coverage and expensive charge. A heated debate was aroused after Xiamen University introduced the golf course to its students in 2006.
