China's new sports idol Li Na, famous for her generosity of off-court wit, is also generous with her prize money as she donated 500,000 yuan to the Wuhan rest home in her hometown.
The newly-crowned French Open champion received 480,000 yuan (after tax) as bonus for the victory in early June from her home city government. She raised the rest from her savings and donated it in the name of herself.
Fresh from a European tour, where she triumphed in Paris but stumbled in London, Li enjoyed rare time with her family and later was given a celebration party on Tuesday in Beijing, where she received a golden hada as gift from Yushu earthquake orphans whom she gave donations last year after the disaster in April.
Strong-willed on the court, "Sister Na" shed tears before the well-wishing fans and the Yushu beneficiaries who were chanting, "I love you, sister Na." But that didn’t stop her wit. "But I only love Jiang Shan (her husband), now what?" she said with her symbolic broad smile.
