Kim Jong-il visits factories, farms in China

BEIJING -  Top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Kim Jong-il visited Beijing, and Heilongjiang, Jilin and Jiangsu provinces during his unofficial visit to China from May 20-26.

Kim, general secretary of the Worker's Party of Korea and chairman of the DPRK's National Defense Commission, visited projects related to industrial production, agriculture, technology development, trade and people's livelihood in Mudanjiang of Heilongjiang, Changchun of Jilin, Yangzhou and Nanjing of Jiangsu, and the capital city Beijing.

In Mudanjiang, he visited the Hailin Farm and learned about its industrialization and urbanization. He also called upon local workers'  families.

In Changchun, he came to the Northeast Changchun Core Area Planning Construction Hall, and visited assembly lines of sedans and heavy duty trucks in China FAW Group Corporation and FAW Jiefang Automotive Company, Ltd., and learned about assembly flow, production technologies and vehicle performance.

In Yangzhou, Kim visited the Yangzhou Smart Valley, the country's Smart Grid Demonstration Center. He was briefed about the research and development of high-tech products such as e-book and smart grid. He also visited China Resources Suguo, a local chain store.

In Nanjing, he visited China Electronics Corporation' s Panda Group Co. and learned about the latest development of LCD technologies.

In Beijing, he visited the innovation exhibition and R&D center of Digital China, a leading integrated IT service provider.

During his week-long tour, nine months away from his last China visit in August 2010, Kim said he has witnessed China's new progress in various fields of economic development, social construction, people's livelihood, technology and culture.

He said the CPC's reform and opening-up policy has been proven correct, and the path of scientific development is full of vigor. The DPRK people are encouraged by China's achievements and wish the Chinese people make greater progress in implementing the 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-2015) for National Economic and Social Development.
