UNITED NATIONS - China Wednesday called on the United Nations to formulate a comprehensive strategy of conflict prevention, peacekeeping and peacebuilding.
Li Baodong, permanent representative of Chinese Mission to the UN made the remarks at a UN Security Council meeting, which reviewed the annual report of the Peacebuilding Commission.
He noted that peacekeeping and peacebuilding need to have an exit strategy in order to encourage post-conflict countries to stand on their own at an earlier date.
Li said that the Peacebuilding Commission should respect the sovereignty, independence and priorities set up by the country concerned when drawing peacebuilding strategy.
"China believes that the international community's assistance to the post-conflict countries should give priority to national capacity building, youth employment, economic and social development," he added.
China supported close cooperation between the Peacebuilding Commission, Security Council and other UN organs, relevant international institutions and regional organizations. China hoped the Peacebuilding Commission to further improve its efficiency, paying greater attention to the actual results of the relevant activities undertaken in the countries concerned.
