Soldiers serving in China's army have been given a pay rise, the third since July 2006, with increases ranging from 5 to 40 percent, according to the Chongqing Morning Post.

Grassroots officers get the highest increase with some as much as 40 percent. Senior officers will have an average rise of 1,000 yuan ($152) in their monthly wage, raising the highest level of general officers to 22,000 yuan.

The first salary rise was a 100 percent increase in July 2006. The second pay rise came in July 2008.
