A former leader of a prestigious Chinese university in central China's Hubei province has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for taking bribes, the Legal Daily reported Monday.

The Intermediate People's Court of Jingzhou city, in Hubei province sentenced Long Xiaole, former vice principal and deputy secretary of Wuhan University committee of the Communist Party of China, to 10 years in prison on Feb 17, 2011, for taking 610,000 yuan ($92,860) in bribes from 2000 to 2003.

Long was accused of accepting bribes 11 times from companies involved in campus construction projects. He was arrested in September 2010 and was removed from his university post.
