Brussels-based firm eyes Chinese mobile users abroad

By WANG YING in Shanghai | chinadaily.com.cn | Updated: 2017-06-30 11:22

A senior executive of BICS, a Brussels-headquartered international communications enabler, has confirmed the company will be ready to provide high quality mobile experiences to Chinese consumers during their overseas trips with potential Chinese partners. The comment, made on Thursday, is in response to the country's growing demand for such services when people travel abroad.

Malcolm Chan, managing director of Asia-Pacific at BICS, said there are more than 100 million Chinese people traveling abroad each year, who are in need of quality roaming services during their trips. He added the rising overseas travelers from China have pushed the ambition of BICS' to provide easy, quality services to Chinese customers.

A representative of BICS announced on Tuesday, in Belgium, China Unicom Global, a wholly owned subsidiary of China United Network Communication Group Co Ltd, offered reliable end-to-end global integrated telecommunication services and solutions, and has deployed its instant roaming hub to provide customers with high-quality connectivity, regardless of where an individual could be in the world.

According to Chan, China Unicom Global launched an overseas mobile virtual network operator service, named CUniq, in Hong Kong, the UK and the US in early 2017. Under the service, customers could use a one-card-multiple-numbers with worldwide data sharing at a local data price.

BICS' roaming hub platform was designed to help China Unicom Global offer more worldwide roaming coverage and immediate access to mobile networks across the world.
