BEIJING - Beijing will develop its cultural and creative industry with the aim of pushing its added value to 15 percent of the local GDP by 2020, authorities said Thursday.
A development plan by the local publicity department and commission of development and reform says Beijing will hold more than 20,000 cultural activities attracting 30 million people every year,
The added value of the city's cultural and creative industry increased from 170 billion yuan ($25.5 billion) in 2010 to 307 billion yuan in 2015. The sector accounted for 13.4 percent of the local GDP in 2015.
Different districts of the city will find their own characteristics in terms of cultural development. Internet-based activities, such as information services and online games, will be prioritized.
