China's
insurance companies are expected to pay 142 million yuan ($23 million) in compensation to the Ya'an region in
Sichuan province, said the China Insurance Regulatory Commission on Wednesday.
Insurance companies have paid 13.73 million yuan to reported cases. The total number of reported appeals was 895, CIRC said.
As of Tuesday, 196 people had perished, 12,211 were injured and 76,000 houses were damaged during Saturday's earthquake.
