BEIJING -- China will launch a renewed campaign to crack down on the distribution of pornographic material, the National Office Against Pornographic and Illegal Publications said Monday.

The national campaign, which will last from mid-July to the end of November, will target vendors that sell pornographic videos, books and magazines, as well as various forms of pornographic or vulgar online content, according to the office.

The campaign will also target books that promote gang-related culture and songs that feature obscene content.

The office said the crackdown is being launched in response to a resurgence in illegal activity related to distributing pornographic content both online and in brick-and-mortar locations.

The office provided methods for the public to provide it with tips on Monday, adding that those who offer important clues will be rewarded.
