Three stores of the retail giant Walmart in Southwest China's Chongqing municipality is likely to be fined a total of 600,000 yuan ($93,940) for selling ordinary pork at the price of higher-quality pork, Cnr.cn reported.

The stores have sold 1178.99 kilograms of ordinary pork at the prices of organic pork, which is about 10 yuan higher per kilogram, and illegally obtained about 10,000 yuan in profits from January to August this year, Beijing News reported.

Walmart apologized to consumers and promised to double the compensation for its fault. However, it hasn't explained how things happened.

Chongqing administration for industry and commerce said it would like to fine the company at the upper limit amount, which is 200,000 yuan for each store, as Walmart has broken the law several times before. The official punishment will be announced next week.
