Dama buys 13kg of Year of the Monkey gold bars
A Chinese dama (a middle-aged woman) from Northeast China has bought gold bars worth 3.5 million yuan issued to mark the forthcoming Year of the Monkey, according to a Xinhua report.
The woman in her fifties bought 13.3 kg of the precious metal from a gold store in Changchun, Jilin provincee. Her purchase included eight 1kg bars and four half-kilo bars.
The unnamed woman was said to have "strategically planned the investment" seven years in a row, according to the report.
A staff member said the dama bought 2.59 million yuan worth of bars in 2014 and her investment this year is the biggest so far.
The woman drove a car to the sale during a quieter time of the day to avoid crowds. She was accompanied by two men, and paid with a debit card.
