Man divorces wife after winning lottery ordered to hand over part of the money

A man in Chongqing who won the lottery and then divorced his wife without telling her has been ordered by the local court to hand over part of his winnings, according to xdkb.net.

The man, surnamed Liu, won a total of 4.6 million yuan ($723,120 USD dollors) in the February lottery and then immediately filed for divorce.

The wife, who was surprised by her husband's move, had no choice but to sign a divorce agreement. Liu claimed the prize money from a local lottery center the day after he divorced.

Liu's wife found the "secret" after her friends congratulated her on her husband's good fortune. She sued Liu and demanded half the money, arguing the money should be shared evenly as they were still married when Liu bought the winning ticket.

She was awarded 1.15 million yuan ($180,780 USD dollors) in compensation by the court.
