Magical pumpkins turn real
If you thought plants grow overnight only in fairytales, think again. A farm in Ningbo, Zhejiang province, has planted a variety of pumpkin that can regrow rapidly after it is cut, Sina.com reported on Friday.
The magical pumpkin was developed by an agricultural research institute in Anhui in 2003, and is currently being experimentally planted nationwide.
This new pumpkin, which contains 260 micrograms of selenium per kilograms, has a strong anti-drought ability and can be planted in both spring and summer.
One seed can bear two to four pumpkins, with each measuring between 0.9m to 1.7m in length and 6 to 9 kilograms in weight.
According to the experts, this variety regrows so quickly because it has a rich content of an element that helps its regrowth.
