Counterfeit collector faces jail
A woman's hobby of collecting fake banknotes has landed her in police custody.
The woman, surnamed Wang, has spent the past ten years collecting fake RMB notes which she encounters while working in a wholesale fish market in Beijing. But when she "accidentally" deposited the fake notes worth 6,150 yuan ($991 dollars) into a bank, the bank staff alerted the police immediately.
The 54-year-old Wang argued in court that she used to put the fakes notes alongside real money in a locker, which led to the mix-up.
Wang, charged with the crime of possessing counterfeit money, is now standing trial at Changping District Court in Beijing. She may face up to three years in prison and will be fined if she is found guilty, Jinghua Times reported.
