Downcast investors in Shanghai wait for a free hotpot meal

A hot pot restaurant in Shanghai's Pudong financial district offers customers big discounts - a free hotpot meal if the bourse drops 5 per cent or more.

The restaurant received about 500 customers for dinner Thursday night when the local index dropped 6.5 percentage points, the Shanghai Morning Post reported.

There were long queues outside as people waited for the free dinner and the restaurant had to call for extra supplies to meet demand.

The restaurant spent around 50,000 yuan ($8,067)for the dinner.
