Fallen man dies, ignored by passers-by

An old man was caught by a surveillance camera falling down on a street in Yuhuan county, East China's Zhejiang province, but in the eight minutes he lay there, none of the 23 passersby or passing vehicles helped him up,until a car crushed him and dragged him for a distance, killing him on Sunday, Beijing News reported on Wednesday.

Among passersby, only an elderly woman, who is reportedly an acquaintance of the man, came over and talked to him, before leaving to look for his family members.

The report quoted a person in charge of the local publicity bureau saying that the man, an alcoholic, died on the scene after the car crushed him.

The head of the village where the man lived explained that no one helped him because the man was an infamous drunkard, and was prone to violence when drunk, the report said.
