A man was swindled out of millions by an "American beauty" he met online, Dahe Daily reported.
Xiao, from central China's Henan province, likes chatting online. In August, he met a net friend who claimed to be an "American soldier" serving in Congo peacekeeping forces and the "girl" with the screen name Tropple sent Xiao "her" photos in military uniform which intrigued him.
During one chat Xiao learnt of a fortune worth $4.5 million in the name of an African orphan, and was promised 35 percent of the money if he helped obtain it. Xiao sent a total 2.18 million yuan (around $356,000) to Tropple but discovered he could no longer contact his online friend.
Police investigated and tracked down an African man in Shenyang, Northeast China's Liaoning province last month who turned out to be the "beautiful soldier" chatting with Xiao.
