Man turns wedding into fundraiser
A man named Lv Jian in Dongyang city, Zhejiang province, turned his wedding on May 20 into a charitable event after he asked guests to give their "fenzi" – which refers to gifts of cash given to newlyweds according to local custom - to 63 students of limited means, Beijing Times reported. The newspaper also said that guests were happy to comply with the request, and Lv also announced that he would donate 3.8 million yuan ($609,326) to charitable causes and his father would donate 68 computers to three local schools for the children of migrant workers. Lv and his father have helped more than 300 students in recent years and their donations to charitable causes have exceeded 20 million yuan, the report said.
Executives sentenced for using stated-owned assets
Four senior executives of PKU Resource Group have been given prison sentences for privately carving up State-owned properties worth a total of 20 million yuan ($3.2 million), Beijing Times reported. From 2002 to 2004, the company was in debt on the balance sheet, but the senior executives and some employees continued to receive a huge annual bonus each year. But a whistleblower reported his or her suspicions in 2008. The procuratorate found that six senior executives of the group were illegally concealing income from renting out property, and distributed it to employees.
Chairman of the board Gong, and vice presidents Zhang and Huang were sentenced to two years in prison with two years probation. Vice chairman Qiu was sentenced to one and a half years in prison with two years probation. And company president Ye and chief financial officer Lv were included in China's list of most-wanted criminals – as they are living overseas.
The four appealed, but the upper court upheld the verdict and sentences.

A baby was caught by a passerby after falling two storeys from a building in Ganlan town in Guangdong province, China Central Television (CCTV) reported. The one-year-old got out of a window during a thunderstorm and then slipped. Security cameras trained on the street below show a passerby, surnamed Li, stretching out his arms as the baby falls. He then rushes forward and clings on to the infant amid the pouring rain, as another passerby – a woman – in the background can be seen with an expression showing horror and shock.
Man claims was scapegoat – and escapes death sentence
A court in Huizhou, Guangdong province, decided not to hand down the death sentence to Liu Wenbiao, who was convicted of leading a drug gang, after he cried out that he was employed by another man, Southern Metropolis Daily reported. Liu had been convicted of producing drugs since 2010 and acting as leader of a drug gang.Liu shouted out that he was innocent and a scapegoat of his partner, surnamed Li. The court withdrew his death sentence as he "reported important information and something needs to be checked".

Girlfriend blamed for losing winning lottery ticket
