Sanya urban patrol officers are reminding people at Dadonghai beach to wear their bathing suits, China News Service reported on Friday.

Officers posted notices throughout the popular resort destination asking beachgoers to follow the rules and not sunbathe or swim naked at public swimming areas or beaches. Those who violate the rules will be fined accordingly.

Wuxi giant Buddha spawns imitators

The popularity of an 88-meter-tall Buddha statue in Wuxi has inspired several Chinese provinces to build similar statues, Xinhua News Agency reported on Friday.

The giant Lingshan Buddha in Wuxi, built in 1997, attracted more than 3.8 million visitors and earned several hundred million yuan in tourism income in 2013.

Police seek to identify body found in desert

Police are seeking information to help identify a woman whose desiccated body was found on Wednesday in the Kumtag desert, China Central Television reported on Thursday.

The woman is believed to be a tourist who was on a walking tour. The body was discovered by someone riding a motorcycle in the area who then reported it to the local police.

Cold weather heats up flower prices

A resident in Xi'an, Shaanxi province, surnamed Tang, recently discovered that a bouquet of 99 roses he wanted to send to his girlfriend on Valentine's Day was priced at 1,580 yuan ($260). The price is almost triple the usual cost of 565 yuan, Huashang Daily reported on Friday.

The flower shop owner said the price of roses will continue to rise ahead of Valentine’s Day on Feb. 14 because unusually cold temperatures in Kunming since Dec. 14 have affected flower production.

Spring Festival snacks given by Chinese Premier Li Keqiang were cherished by villagers who felt they were too precious to eat.

Migrant worker Yang Xiufeng shared the snacks with other villagers when Premier Li visited Yang's left-behind home on Jan. 27 in Jinpo village of Northwest China's Shaanxi province, but later found that some of the villagers wanted to keep the delicate snacks as souvenirs.

Reception cap for foreign leaders

China will now only provide 600 yuan ($99) to cover foreign heads of state and government daily food costs during their visits in a measure to control extravagance and waste.

The price of their daily meals has been stipulated in explicit terms for the first time ever, Beijing municipal finance bureau spokesman Han Jie said, Beijing Times reported.
