Sex scandal

A senior Communist Party School official in Northwest China's Shaanxi province was dismissed from his post after he became embroiled in a sex scandal.

Qin Guogang, vice president of the Party School of the Shaanxi CPC committee, received the punishment on Monday over allegations of a sexual relationship with a female postgraduate at the school, Southern Metropolis Daily reported.

Photos of a naked man resembling Qin appeared online last week. According to some posts, he maintained sexual relations with the postgraduate for more than a year with the promise of marrying her.

Girl starves to death

Police in Northwest China's Shaanxi province have detained a woman for the death of her 7-year-old daughter.

Wang Yabin is suspected of having mental problems. Her daughter was found dead on Jan 17 at home, cnwest.com reported.

Police said the girl died from starvation, and the case was still under investigation.

More than 5,000 women applied for a temporary job of pretending to be the girlfriend of a wealthy man for seven days during the Spring Festival holiday, Zhengzhou Evening News reported.

The wealthy man, called a tuhao (newly rich) by netizens, said on the Twitter-like micro blog that he is offering 1 million yuan to accompany him back home in Shenzhen city during the festival.

The man said his mother is pushing him to get married as soon as possible, but he was too busy to fall in love.

Knife-wielding man caught

Police in Sanya city of South China's Hainan province captured a man who held a woman hostage with a knife on Monday.

The suspect kept the woman on the roof of a house and forced her to take off all her clothes expect her underwear. He was caught when he tried to flee in a taxi, China News Service reported.

Zhang Hai, former president of Guangdong-based beverage group Jianlibao, has probably fled overseas, according to the Guangdong provincial procuratorate.

Huang Wu, deputy chief prosecutor of Guangdong province, said the police could not find Zhang, and he might have fled overseas.

Zhang was sentenced to 15 years in prison for embezzlement and misuse of money in 2007. He was released on bail in 2011. The Guangzhou Intermediate Court announced on Jan 8 that Zhang tried to get his senten

A man in East China's Jiangxi province won 200 million yuan in a lottery game on Jan 14, Xiaoxiang Morning Post reported.

The lucky man, who owns two companies, said he planned to give his employees 1.7 million yuan in bonuses ahead of Spring Festival. He could get 160 million yuan after taxes, the report said.
