Highways in Beijing will open for free during the seven-day Chinese Spring Festival holiday starting Jan 31, according to the Beijing Municipal Commission of Transport on Wednesday.

Toll-free expressways in the city will not available for New Year's Eve, it said.

Benz owner mugged

A woman surnamed Sun in Shanghai was mugged on Monday night while opening the door of her Mercedes after shopping at a local supermarket, Shanghai TV reported.

Three suspects forced her to withdraw 40,000 yuan from her bank and fled after drugging her with sleeping pills. The suspects have been caught.

There was a 1.1 billion yuan difference in reported fines for violating the family planning policy in 2012 in Guangdong province. The two figures were released by two different local government departments, said Han Zhipeng, a CPPCC member in Guangzhou.
