Authorities at Renmin University of China said the university will suspend independent recruitment of students for one year to improve and standardize its admissions process, according to Beijing Morning Post.

In November, Cai Rongsheng, head of admissions at the university, was being investigated for his role in a scandal that involved selling spots at the public university for hefty prices.

Calendar sales

It is estimated that enterprises that make calendars in Yiwu, Zhejiang province, will suffer losses of more than 100 million yuan ($16.5 million) this year due to a sharp decline in market demand, Beijing News reported.

The shrinking market came after a ban on buying gifts such as New Year cards with public funds, issued by the central government in October.

IPhone deal

Apple Inc announced on Monday that it reached a deal with China Mobile to sell 4G versions of the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c, which can also work on TD-SCDMA 3G networks.

The new iPhones will be available on Jan 17 and can be pre-ordered via the official website of China Mobile or through its hotline 10086.
