Maldives reaches out for Chinese investment

Maldives held an investment forum in Beijing on Oct 19, attended by officials from Maldives government and a business delegation.
The forum was jointly organized by the Maldives government, the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, and Maldivian business community. It aimed to showcase lucrative investment opportunities in the Maldives.
The country remains as a key stakeholder in the South Asia region.The history of bilateral relations between Maldives and China dates back several decades, organizers said.
The country is looking for investment in a number of key strategic projects initiated by local government at this time, including tourism, real estate, banking and finance, transportation and renewable energy, which will be showcased during the forum.
The country is encouraging Chinese business to invest in its projects.
Currently, the largest industry in the Maldives is tourism. China remains the biggest source of tourists to Maldives.
