About300 kilometers away from Jiangxi’s capital, Nanchang, lays Huangling, which promotes itself as the most beautiful village in China.

We were not necessarily convinced by its title during a recent media visit, but the quaint and delicate small village is definitely worth the four-hour bus ride, including a thrilling portion on twisting mountain roads.

Situated among green mountains and 500 meters above sea level, Huangling’s forest coverage is as high as 82 percent.

Ancient Hui-style houses, featuring black roof tiles and white walls, are well kept and maintained. The detailed carvings on wood, bricks and walls make each house a timeless piece of art.

The natural views of Huangling are highlighted by its terraced fields, seas of flowers in spring and colorful harvests in autumn.

During autumn, the ancient Huangling people would dry  all the crops, such as corn, red chili, chrysanthemum flower outside the windows.

The tradition, shaijiu, which began due to limited space in the terraced fields, is now a phenomenon that photographers from outside are amazed at.
